TAWNI Grant

A total of 12 young taxonomists were awarded funds through the ChEss TAWNI programme to aid them with specific taxonomic projects relating to deep-water chemosynthetic species. Over 40 species new to science were identified or described by TAWNI awardees, including one species of anemone, Alvinactis chessi, even named after ChEss. Both morphological and molecular taxonomy are essential to develop fundemental knowledge and sustainable management of our marine resources.
