ASMOS: Assessment of the Surface Marine Observing System

The plots below show as assessment of data quality for February 2007 on a 5 ° grid. Green areas are sampled to meet the sampling metrics (number of days sampled ≥ 5, number of platforms ≥ 4 or sampling from one moored buoy or for SST and pressure sampling from 2 or more drifting buoys) together with total uncertainties of 0.4 or less in the appropriate units for that variable. Areas coloured orange meet the sampling metrics but have uncertainties greater than 0.4. Red areas do not meet the metrics.

Map showing assessment of marine observing system for air temperature during February 2007. The major shipping lanes are well sampled and meet the metrics (Green). Other shipping routes meet the required sampling but have larger uncertainties (orange) whilst the rest of the ocean does not meet the metrics (red).
